Hot Tubs

Hot tubs are known for their "barrel" shape and the wooden or wood-like straps that make up the walls of the tub.

Hot tubs are watertight containers designed to hold 300 to 1000 gallons of water and 1-12 people. Hot tubs may be round, oval or rectangular, with straight or slanted sides. Hot tubs rely on support equipment to keep the water hot and clean. Hot tubs have a heater, pump and filter and often have hydrojets or air bubblers for different water effects.

Modern wooden hot tubs were born in the 1960s near Santa Barbara, California. The local residents bathed regularly for years in the natural hot springs of Big Caliente, Montecito, and Esalen. The problem was that while hot spring baths were a pleasure, bathers had to leave their home to get there.

One bather took an old wine barrel and spare plumbing parts and placed the contraption near his house. This inspired invention became the first known modern hot tub.

Hot tubs of today can be installed, inspected and ready to use within a couple of weeks. Like home spas, hot tubs can be placed on patios and decks outdoors or indoors - in fact, almost anywhere!
